A car accident can leave you dealing with back pain, neck discomfort, headaches, or joint stiffness that make everyday life hard. At Westside Chiropractic in Burlington, we care for people recovering from motor vehicle accidents, whether your injuries are recent or the pain has lingered since a collision a while ago.
Whiplash and why symptoms can be delayed
One of the reasons people put off getting checked is that they feel more or less okay right after a collision. Whiplash symptoms, the neck pain, stiffness, and headaches that come from the neck being thrown quickly back and forth, often do not show up until a day or two later, once the initial adrenaline wears off. Getting assessed early gives you a clear record of your injuries and a plan to work from, even if you are not in much pain yet.
How we help
We start by listening to what happened and assessing how you move, then explain what we find and build a plan around it. Depending on your injuries, care may involve chiropractic care, soft tissue therapy, medical acupuncture, and a graded exercise and rehab plan to help you get back to driving, working, and the things you normally do. Every plan reflects your injuries, your goals, and how your body responds along the way.
How the insurance side works in Ontario
Care after a car accident in Ontario is usually handled through the accident benefits on your auto insurance, not through your extended health plan, no matter who was at fault. There is some paperwork involved, and it can feel confusing when you are already dealing with pain. The simplest first step is to call us at (905) 637-0212, and we will help you understand the process and where to start.
When to seek urgent care
If your collision was serious, or you have severe pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg, a head injury, confusion, or any symptom that worries you, seek medical care or go to the hospital first. Chiropractic care is for the mechanical neck, back, and joint injuries that often follow an accident, and we will refer you on if your assessment suggests you need to be seen elsewhere.
Should I get checked even if I feel okay?
It is often worth it. Because whiplash symptoms can be delayed, an early assessment gives you a baseline and a plan, and a record of your injuries in case symptoms develop later. If everything checks out, that is good news, and we will tell you so.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. You can book directly with us in Ontario without a doctor’s note. If you were hurt at work rather than in a collision, see our WSIB injuries page instead, since that care runs through WSIB rather than auto insurance.
You will find us at 1401 Plains Road East, Unit 2, in Burlington, with free parking on site. We care for people from Burlington and Aldershot, along with Waterdown, Hamilton, and Oakville.
